BK weekend

Saturday evening started with a little chill out with norwegian buddies visiting. You might recognize Jonas from this post and this post . This time he was visiting with his cutie girlfriend, Hanne. Always great to have a norwegian drinking buddy present.

The night continued at Amir Embrahimi's first solo photo show at the loft, which included a pretty sexy set by Raye6.

Sunday was a truly gorgeous Brooklyn day that included pretty pretty pretty people e v e r y w h e r e . Ah, the beauties of BK left this li'l lady breathless.

Afro-Punk had the crowd warmed up and Soul Summer Music followed with the perfect dance beats to keep us swaying, shaking and clapping.

Weekends like this make me appreciate Brooklyn. And summer. And Brooklyn summers. Love is the key word.

Jelsen planned a special little excursion for me on my bday, so I put a cupcake on my head and together with Rodney and Lisa we followed Jelsen's tracks all the way to Long Island.

Final destination proved to be the Belmont horse tracks, where we spent an entire day

Birthday girl then went ahead and won 8 out of 10 races. That's just how I roll....

(If only I had bet more than 2 bucks at a time.)

....so i've been in search of a new bike forever and FINALLY something caught my eye [ and wallet ] via craigslist a week ago. boston > craigslist.

ha - i emailed the post and he called me back the next morning.

'cool - so what neighborhood are you in?', he asked.

'new york city.'

'damn, dude.'

'yeah - gimme 5-6hrs to get there.'

'cool.'

this was on a friday so i jumped on a chinatown bus [ bought a disposable camera first ] and headed to boston:

I got there just under 5hrs.

And once i got there a mister Josh Deane picked me up and pulled my baby out of his jeep:

After about 20mins of throwing bike jargon back and forth [ he was far more articulate ] i handed over some currency and headed back to the bus station.

Print Liberation does tons-o-stuff involving silk-screening, typography, illustration, tees, and fun times [ there's more stuff, too ]. Im a sucker for anyone doing what they do while letting their personality skeet all over the work - always refreshing.

The other night i met up with a good chap [ yes, i said chap...figured it a sly way to acknowledge his Brit-ness ] for some single malt.

Adam Regan is easily one of the most interesting dude's i've ever bullshat with. This guy has a whole lotta primo stories to tell. it's like when i say to a friend, "ey - remember that CRAZY wknd in _____?!!", well he has decades of those.

inspiring, indeed.

In april i was hit up by the brotherly duo directors TWiN to be a part of their Qdept Director Series.

Twas a cool idea: pic a couple of artists, send us their favorite songs, give us 30mins in front of a camera to illustrate a piece influenced by the music...then throw a party to display the film and the art.

A couple days ago i shadowed Dhundee over to see his buddies at Liberty Studios.

Ms Gina Bevilacqua is a dope producer who's also a sucker for mid-seventies folk music 'my parents used to always listen to...and now all of a sudden i cant get enough of it.' She threw a couple tracks on and i summed up her parents as cool-ass west coast hippies.

New Yankees stadium

Billy invited me out to a ball game at the new and fancy Yankees Stadium and it was a gorgeous day in the sun. Although our team lost (Indians), I think I learned a thing or two about the game. The people on the field are called players, not men. A pitcher throws the ball and a catcher, well duh, catches it. There are 9 innings, not 8. And they serve sushi at the stadium.

Brooklyn Signage

I got to check out the Brooklyn Storefront Exhibit at Brooklyn Historical Society right before it closed - and was left much more educated about our little borough. The stories that go with the beautiful pictures (by James and Karla Murray) were all so heart warming and made me want to go out of my way to keep the buck in Brooklyn.

Sloppy dancing

Danced Friday night away to the beat of The Presets at Webster Hall. The most fun I've had in a long long time. Afterwords we slipped in a secret door and ended up at another dance party. Lots of sloppy moves and gin and tonic's later, I took on the task of balancing down a winding staircase. Looking at the picture now, I'm wondering... maybe it was me who was the winding one?

Cleaned out my closet and sold some of my old clothes at Beacon's Closet and Buffalo Exchange and spent the money on dinner at a cute little restaurant with a wonderful group of ladies. Lots of giggles and toasts later, we ended up shaking our bon-bons at Target 1st Saturday at Brooklyn Museum where we were out-danced by a tiny little 2 year old who pop'ed and did jump-splits like she she does it for a living.

My buddy, Katie, invited me and her buddy Natalie, along to go to the annual Orchid show at New York Botanic Garden in Bronx. I'm not usually an Orchid kinda gal, but must say I was left breathless and surprisingly elevated after seeing all these gorgeous flowers in full bloom.

I also remembered that the first flower I ever got from Jelsen was an Orchid. He carried it all the way from Hamburg to London. Here's a very old picture of that...

...And here is what my day looked like. Yes, I have an editing problem, but there can never be enough beauty on this page, right? My favorite part of this flower is the middle. I see everything from tongues to tigers heads in them.

Staying party

Our buddy, Pascale, was supposed to move back to Barcelona this week and had planned a going away party. Then she decided BK is getting under her skin and since we all still wanted a reason to party at Smooch with DJs Jtram, Leb Laze and Epstein, the party was renamed to a staying party and we got going.

Thursday night drinking, catching up with neighborhood buddies and animal petting is always a winner in my book.

You guys might remember her as the coolest chaperone to have ever lived - maybe. When i was in DC for inauguration wknd she showed me a thoroughly proper time.

First three

I finally got to get on a flight and head back home. I am beyond excited about this-time-around and I believe the universe is backing me up on that feeling. Before even leaving my seat, I watched my luggage being the first to leave the aircraft and when I stepped out to pick up my car at the rental place, a small sign on the pavement made my heart flip.

Hardly home for 2 hours, hubbie and I headed out to play with our friends and before we knew it hours passed, more and more friends gathered and it was a perfect little welcome back party that carried from one party to a bar to a rooftop. All along smiling.

Waking up the next morning was not even a challenge. We got in the rental and headed to Montauk for an off season scroll on the beach. Pure serenity.

The following morning, Monday caught up with us and we drove into the city to drop Jelsen off at work. Hours later I joined more buddies at a wine tasting event on Fulton.

Brooklyn and my Brooklynites... How I've missed you. We have a lot of catching up to do, but I'm on it! Just gimme a moment to prove it now, will ya!

Over a year ago i met Julian via Rodney at his & his wife's house warming party. You know those people you meet and you say to yourself, 'wow, that's probably the nicest person i've ever met' -yeah, he's one of those.

AND THEN i peeped his work and the man-crush was full on. Incredible perspective!

On w.houston I bumped into Wayne Lawrence carrying his tripod and that pretty machine on top of it.

Its been a minute. Bahareh and i met Wayne when he shot us for TRACE magazine a couple summers back.

Heather, Lichi, and i were treated with an impromptu photoshoot on 2nd ave 'round 1am. A definite great time. Thanks mang.

One of my favorite pages in fashion magazines is the page where they show what happens backstage at photo shoots and runway shows. Today I stumbled on to Wallpaper's fashion week coverage and found it to be a far more interesting view than the usual runway pictures we see on other sites. A little closer-up, a tad more angled, a slight glans at the model's personal expressions (yes, they have a few of their own) and a whole lot more fun!

Atlason's 'Princess' stool is made from a whole lamb, exposing the former life and current predicament of the animal. This is evident from the transition in the wool from the legs to the ‘back’.

Are you fucking kidding me?! No, they are not. There's more.....

The original hoofs were digitally recorded in 3D and then cast in silver, complementing the true details of the animal.
